FEBRUARY 9, 2005
PRESS CONFERENCE IN SUPPORT OF MARTHA BEATRIZ ROQUE, FÉLIX BONNE
CARCASSES, RENE GÓMEZ MANZANO AND THE GENERAL MEETING OF THE ASSEMBLY TO
PROMOTE CIVIL SOCIETY IN CUBA
WHO: Congressmen Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL),
Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL), representatives of MAR for Cuba, and of other
Cuban exile groups
WHAT: Press conference
WHEN: Friday, February 11, 2005 at 11:00 a.m.
WHERE: Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart’s office located at 8525 NW 53
Terrace, Suite 102 in Miami
WHY: On May 20, 2005, the Assembly to Promote Civil Society in Cuba, an
umbrella grouping of 365 Cuban civil society organizations led by Martha
Beatriz Roque, Felix Bonne Carcasses and Rene Gomez Manzano, will hold
its first General Meeting to discuss the reestablishment of civil
society and democracy in Cuba.
The Cuban dictatorship has always opposed activities of independent
opposition groups –and especially- every effort that promotes unity,
internally, and with the exile community.
Despite the extraordinary risks, these brave men and women are promoting
this important effort at unity, which deserves our strong support.
