Name: José Antonio Pérez Morell
Post he/she occupies:
Delegate, Province of Matanzas
Organization to which
he/she belongs: Independent Movement “Alternative Option”
Province: Matanzas
Place of birth: Matanzas
Date of birth:
14 January 1962
I belong
to the opposition since November 16, 1996. On December 10, 1998, we
carried out an activity in the town square of Pedro Betancourt. In
2000 the political police stormed over the site of the Independent
Movement “Alternative Option” and interrupted the fast that was
taking place there, with beatings, verbal abuse and detentions.
Every 28th of January we have been detained, boarded into
cars and taken to remote places, where we are forced to stay. On
January 28, 2002, we were beaten and detained, when we were going to
participate in a meeting with Dr. Oscar Elías Biscet. Another
aspect to mention is that our movement will go on fighting against
the regime that oppresses us and that unjustly sends us to prison,
because we defend the right of every human being to freedom. This
is why we defend and support the Assembly to Promote Civil Society,
because we see in it a way to show the population all its rights,
and the possibility of living in a democracy; this population lives
under the biggest terror in Cuba’s history, under the yoke of one
single man who seeks only his personal interest, and not those of
the fatherland. I have been unjustly imprisoned

Organization to which
he/she belongs: Movement “New Alternative” and Independent Library
“Henry Reeve”
Province: Matanzas
Place of birth: Cárdenas,
Matanzas
Date of birth: 17 July
1970
I have
been part of the opposition for 3 years. During my relatively short
time in the opposition I have participated in vigils, fasts,
activities convened for such dates as 10 December, 5 August, 24
February, 20 May, 28 January; I have provided support to different
organizations in their activities, and for this I have been arrested
and beaten. For example, on December 6, 2002, I was called for a
lecture on Human Rights by Doctor Oscar Elías Biscet; there I was
savagely beaten, together with 16 brothers, and afterwards
imprisoned for five days in the unit of Avenida de Acosta, in
Havana. As President of the Movement “New Alternative”, I count
with several municipal delegations, and a large number of members;
we work hard with them to provide their training as oppositors. I
maintain a firm position regarding my principles and my manner of
struggle against the Cuban government and all its supporters. As a
librarian I carry out several activities in my community, like
literary encounters, study circles, movie-debates, and some
especially with children and young people. At the present time I am
involved in the unity of the organizations with my province,
together with other brothers that form the Coordination for
Democratic Oppositors in Matanzas. I have not been sanctioned nor
imprisoned so far as a prisoner of conscience, but I have an open
record due to the events of December 6, 2002: disobedience,
irrespect and resistence. I wans to stress that I belong to “Los
Plantados” for the province of Matanzas.

Post he/she occupies: Secretary, Provincial Delegation of Matanzas
Organization to which he/she belongs: Independent Movement
“Alternative Option”

Date of birth: 20 January 1073
I have been in the opposition since 1997. On December 10, 1998, we
took place in a public activity in the town square of the
Municipality of Pedro Betancourt. On January 28, 2002, we were the
victims of an act of repudiation organized by the Communist Party
and the repressive organs of the present regime, where we were
thrown cans on fire. In the year 2002 my family was the victim of a
terrorist attack, where the lives of 4 minors was endangered. In
the year 2002, our movement had a meeting with Dr. Oscar Elías
Biscet on December 6, and once there we were beaten and imprisoned.
In 2003, on March 18, I was arrested by the political police and
threy told me that they were going to make us disappear, and we
